The blade Delphinus is a leaf-blade shortsword with a handle made to resemble a fair mermaid. The blade appears to be steel but has a faint blue cast to it and is immune to rust.

The blade will refuse to attune or function properly unless reunited with her scabbard. Without the scabbard she is a '''cursed shortsword -1''' and cannot be put down. A ''Remove Curse'' will end this effect.

With her scabbard she will reveal herself to be a '''Shortsword of Speed, +2''' with the special purpose of destroying abominations in general and [[Deep Ones]] specifically. Against her chosen foe she does an additional 1d6 radiant damage, and on a critical hit casts ''Disintegration'' at 6th spell level, no save. She is considered mildly sentient, with INT 14 WIS 12 CHA 16. She communicates via empathy and can manifest in dreams as a beautiful human female ghost. Even in dreams she will not speak.

If an evil character attempts to wield her or even hold her by the hilt, she will immediately attempt a contest of wills. If she succeeds, she will attempt to ''Disintegrate'' the usurper. She will retry this contest every turn.
