The cat-like hominids known to inhabit the Kandeigen jungle canopy are a curious folk. They are tall, with both males and females standing 6'-7' although they rarely stand at a fully erect posture, preferring a resting crouch or a hunched dash (they can run quite gracefully but walking is awkward and hesitant). Their limbs and torso are slender and lean, with a paunch of body fat around the belly and hips that varies in size as they tend to gorge on as much food as possible then fast for days or weeks on end.
According to their lore, an unknown Empyrean or Demigod was inspired by the natural grace and beauty of a jungle cat and raised them up to a more evolved form in order to take dominion over the whole of the world of Greensward. Unfortunately the ingrained nature of the feline brain could not be so easily mastered and their aloof nature and independent spirit meant that civilization and cooperative society never came to fruition. Even now, persecuted and desperate, they still only gather into loose tribes and their solitary nature chafes at even this modicum of grouping.
They claim that some time during the Third Age the Tabaxi rebelled against the oppression of their benefactor and slew him. Even the name of their God is intentionally forgotten, as the Tabaxi believe that should a Tabax ever speak her name again, that she will be restored to life and exterminate the whole of the Tabaxi people in retribution.
