Dragonborn

The race known as Dragonborn trace their history back to some time late in the Fourth Age. It is told that the Gold Dragon Jupitos became afflicted by a potent artifact from the Far Realm. The nature of this device is lost to history but part of the affliction drove him to take on mortal forms and sire all manner of offspring with "lesser beings" until his destruction by a coalition of pious dragons who charged him with heretical indecency. Many sages point to the sickness of Jupitos as the source for a great many monsters such as the Chimerae, Gorgon, Manticore, and Cockatrice.

It is also said that Jupitos was responsible for the birth of no less than a thousand half-dragons with various elven maidens. To protect the children from the dragons as well as any elven persecutors, he hid them in an unknown demi-plane touched by Limbo where they thrived for many generations. When the coalition finally came for Jupitos, he attempted to Gate in his army of progeny, by now a formidable force. Unfortunately for Jupitos, they arrived too late. The coalition defeated Jupitos and in true draconic fashion abandoned the Dragonborn to a hostile world to fend for themselves.

The Dragonborn were largely looked upon by the Great Wyrms as abominations and were generally deemed as unfit for slavery. This meant exile at best, extermination at worst. To escape persecution they scattered to the winds, forming small clans at the very edge of civilization. A few scholars have suggested that the subterranean Troglodyte is a degenerate offshoot of the Dragonborn, but this theory is generally discounted by sages who point to the Dragonborn love of the Sun and Stars as well as their irrational fear of being underground.

Lizardman

Lizardfolk are frequently ignored in the counting of mortal men. It is hard to remember that these massive crocodilian beasts are capable of even tribal organization. Territorial but usually not expansionist, their entire culture changes with the appearance of a Lizard King. The entire tribe turns bloodthirsty and malevolent, and the waters of the swamp run red.

Kobold

Any Kobold will vocally proclaim that they bear the blood of Dragons but scholars are hard pressed to find a Dragon that will support that claim. They worship Dragons as Gods incarnate, and they Drakes tolerate their attention and even cultivate it when it serves to bolster their horde, but they generally regard them as little more than very affectionate food.

It is much more likely that the source of the Kobold race has more to do with some alchemical mistake involving a small and annoying dog and a very bad tempered iguana or newt.

Still, it is unwise to discount them as a threat completely. They are primitive but cunning, with a fascination for traps and mechanical mayhem in general. Anyone fool enough to give chase into a Kobold warren is likely to be greeted by spring loaded spikes and flaming dung at every turn. The phrase "chasing a Kobold crown" is a common description for a plan that involves suicidal risk for a worthless reward.

Yuan Ti

It is believed that the Yuan Ti are originally depraved humans who have aggressively cultivated the attention of one or many snake-demons for dozens of generations. Some point to the legendary Decimated from the early days of the Imperium, who fled into the swamps rather than follow a decimation order from the Emperor. Others discount this possibility, claiming that tying the tragic heroes of the Decimated with this wicked and disgusting cult is clearly an attempt by Imperial romantics to recast their beloved Emperor as just and honorable and the rebel Bandia Silverlocke as a base mother of monsters.
