I'm going for an Artificer, working towards the Artillerist subclass. I was looking at new things for wildemount and there's a Dragonborn subrace of Dracobloods. They lose their resistance to their damage type but gain a racial feature with persuasion. Coolest part was they were slavemasters that got ran out by their slaves (Ravixite Dragonborn) when their homeland fell, so there would be some issues if I met them. At first I thought about being a noble, but the nobility would be fairly destroyed, and I saw that dwarves have an impact on the world, so there's a background called Clan Crafter, which may or may not be part of this expansion, but its essentially one that gets adopted into a dwarven clan. It would be useful if my artificer is making inventions and machines with magic.

He is really short and scaley and the Dwarves think he is just a fat Kobold

Im defiantly going for a more tinkerer character, I like the idea of maybe pretending to be a kobold to fool people? Id still want newer people to think he's a dragonborn before a kobold. I dont know if the draconbloods are hunted or praised as nobility. If its under the premise of hiding from people, it could be a disguise

Dragonborn is kind of hated. They arent from this continent but there is an arrogant and loathed dragonborn empire in Tal Dorei

He could have come to Brokenbank because of the volcano maybe trying to harness it or use its power somehow?

He can just be short. He wouldnt look like a kobold to anyone who had ever seen a dragonborn because he would be 4'6" and 160 pounds instead of 3 foot nothing and 30 pounds But the Dwarves didnt have a reference point

[11:47 AM] Happyman: oooh maybe he wants to find out what happened at Greedhole

You know the story of Balas Grithil, Balduin's Hope. Balduin brought miners and crafters with promise of refined obsidian from the volcano. They established the site and sent ore back on trade ships for three years. Then the ships found an empty hole that moaned with sad winds. Two search parties disappeared. Nobody has been brave enough to investigate since. That is what the humans call Greedhole.

No dwarves came out of Greedhole. There are a few wandering Dwarves that visit Brokenbank or live there, but no proper Dwarven settlement. You listened for years to your mentor speak of his nieces who joined the settlers and never came back. He always ended the story drunk and sad, mumbling "It eats Dwarves. Mebbe it don't eats Kobolds."

Your Dwarves are from the Dolithil mine.

Northeast of the elven city of Gwardan lies the Dolithil Mine, owned and operated by the Dolithil Orekeepers Guild from within the city. The entrance to the mine remains hidden from view thanks to simple illusions put in place to deter thieves. While the mine yields a respectable amount of gold and platinum, it is notably rich in iron, tin, copper, zinc, and other more common metals that are used in the secret trade of steamcasting (see "Gwardan" later in this chapter).

Steamcasting

The elves of Gwardan built sprawling mines throughout the nearby mountains, becoming the most renowned metallurgists and smiths across the Menagerie Coast. The mingling of elven cultures has occasioned the guarded development of a unique style of metalworking. Blending organic designs with super-heated caustic mists, the "steamcasting" process imbues metal with a prismatic shimmer and enables cheap, brittle materials to become as workable and as strong as steel. Gwardan is known across Exandria for its unique steamcast goods, and no one else has managed to get the style quite right, making Gwardan's decor, jewelry, and weapons coveted throughout the world.

The Elves of Gwardan developed Steamcasting in cooperation with your Clan but once successful they cut you out. Your clan were outcast. The Elves said your people tried to steal the secret. Your Clan master fell, his notes were seized. So yeah, in your experience, Elves are liars and thieves and probably murderers. Especially the Gwardan.

[12:24 PM] Happyman: Okay so you have a rival, a natural born dwarf of the clan [12:24 PM] Happyman: real bootlicker [12:26 PM] Happyman: Before you set out on your own he went to your master and told stories and made promises [12:27 PM] Happyman: Claimed he was going to restore the place of the clan above the Gwardan. Said the key to Steamcasting was in Brokenbank. [12:27 PM] Happyman: Said secret things to the master. [12:28 PM] Happyman: Convinced the master to give him his Steamcast Forging Hammer. [12:29 PM] Happyman: That hammer was supposed to go to you. [12:30 PM] Happyman: Anthil Braylock. That son of a bitch has spent his life stealing your glory and you mean to put a stop to that. [12:31 PM] Happyman: That is why you are here. You don't know what he is up to but you know he is full of shit and hasn't drawn an honest breath in his life and you will not have him humiliating the master so.

[12:39 PM] Happyman: You barely remember your dragonborn family. Your earliest memory is the ambush. You remember wagons and fire and your sister hiding with you in a cart. You didn't know it was an ore cart but the explosion sent it reeling into the mines. That is where the Dwarves found you. [12:40 PM] Happyman: Your sister wasnt with you when you woke up. They said they didnt find her. [12:41 PM] Happyman: roll 3d100 [12:42 PM] NickofTime: 90, 86, 64 [12:43 PM] Happyman: Your sister always wore a small copper locket. When they found you it was around your neck. It has some kind of enchantment on it that prevents it opening. [12:47 PM] Happyman: You were raised and apprenticed under Fadanis Thooke. He has always protected you from the world and shared some of his most guarded metalurgical recipies. You keep them inscribed on small stone discs with a hole to thread a cord through. He gave you a jeweler's loupe to read them. [12:49 PM] Happyman: You have a crib-brother named Strathis Thooke. In your youth you fought constantly but as you came into adulthood he has formed a bond with you. He is not brave but he loves you dearly. He never agrees with you at first but you can eventually convince him to do just about anything. [12:50 PM] Happyman: roll 1d20 [12:50 PM] NickofTime: 9 [12:52 PM] Happyman: roll again [12:52 PM] NickofTime: 1   [12:53 PM] Happyman: nah [12:53 PM] Happyman: You were caught in a terrible storm but miraculously survived. Now your dreams contain visions sent by a mysterious god or demigod. You have proficiency in the Arcana or Religion skill (your choice). [12:54 PM] NickofTime: Ill do arcana [12:54 PM] Happyman: roll 1d8 [12:55 PM] NickofTime: 4 [12:56 PM] Happyman: Your most favorite thing in the world is Honeyflame Bread. Both because it is delicious and because a coughing fit from it was what caused you to manifest your breath weapon. [12:56 PM] Happyman: Honeyflame bread—a fried dessert soaked in honey and coated in Marquesian spices [12:57 PM] Happyman: roll 1d20 [12:57 PM] NickofTime: 9 [12:57 PM] Happyman: another one [12:58 PM] NickofTime:

[12:58 PM] Happyman: I woke up one night to find one of my siblings perched on my chest, staring into my eyes. They said, “The time is soon,” and then giggled and ran off. When I asked them, they had no memory of the event. [1:01 PM] Happyman: one last thing [1:01 PM] Happyman: whats your name? [1:07 PM] NickofTime: Raxtus CunningHammer, adopting the Dwarvan naming scheme for the last name. [1:07 PM] Happyman: Cool. [1:07 PM] Happyman: Oh missed a bit [1:07 PM] Happyman: your prophetic dreamer. [1:08 PM] Happyman: On the way to Brokenbank you had a terrible nightmare of this gaunt, earthy smelling woman with antlers like a stag. [1:09 PM] Happyman: you dreamed she dragged you from your bed to the topdeck and shoved you into a pickle barrel, mumbling in a strange language that you didn't understand. [1:10 PM] NickofTime: as long as its not a bathtub [1:11 PM] Happyman: When you woke up, you were in the barrel but something horrible was attacking the ship. the thing snapped it in two. You could only see through the bunghole but the ship went down and you plugged the bunghole with your thumb [1:11 PM] Happyman: something bit the tip of your thumb off but you kept it sealed and the barrel floated to safety. [1:12 PM] Happyman: Now you have recurring dreams of her whispering in your ear and the next day as you are trying to understand some arcane secret you remember the dream and you realize that she told you the answer you seek. [1:13 PM] Happyman: You also have a bit of claustrophobia and hate pickles now. [1:14 PM] Happyman: I think that puts us off to a great start [1:14 PM] NickofTime: Ok, ill avoid pickles from now on, should I make a sheet on dndbeyond? [1:14 PM] Happyman: https://ddb.ac/campaigns/join/9829172038615201 [1:28 PM] NickofTime: Is the rolling system the same as ravenloft? [1:28 PM] NickofTime: for stats i mean [1:29 PM] Happyman: normal 4d6d1l [1:32 PM] NickofTime: Oh hey michelle added it to the channel ill do it in there [1:48 PM] NickofTime: Would I be ok to make him on the young side to help explain his height? As if he's still able to grow taller [1:49 PM] Happyman: sure. [1:49 PM] Happyman: I was going with short tunnels and bad air stunted his growth  [1:51 PM] NickofTime: I'll do a mix of both
