Twilight Phoenix Star
The Elven people born of this land are tied to the Earth in a way that Humans do not fully understand. An Elf cannot simply choose to conceive a child, it requires the cooperation of the will of Nature herself. So it was that the sage Gifandil and his bride Enchandra prayed to Father Corellon Larethian to encourage Nature to bless them with a child. They prayed for a hundred years, until the Kinslayer War convinced them that the world was wicked and not a good place for a new baby. They saw through the end of the war and when they thought that the world was finally restored to decency they prayed again. Then the rise of the Necromancer needed to be adressed. Many times the cycle repeated. Evil rose in the world and was driven back, and each time they waited with hope and prayed but each time their prayers had just a bit less conviction behind them. In time they gave up on the idea completely.
One thing that the ages have taught the Elven people is that you cannot predict the will of Nature. The world turned and the light of the Elves began to fade and yet in the twilight of her years Enchandra found herself altogether unexpectedly with child. On the outside she was regal and untouched by time but her heart and her spirit were stretched and thin from her long years. She was fading, soon likely to make the journey into the wild and abandon this cruel realm for good. Yet here was this new budding blossom to anchor her. The promise of motherhood hardened her against the pull of the Fey realm but there are forces in the world that cannot be contested even with a mighty will.
